Finding Meaning, Value, and Purpose
Feeling like you have no purpose in life is one of the toughest emotional things we can go through as a human. From personal experience, I can tell you I’ve been there and it’s not pretty at all. It’s easy to get caught up in seeing things as worse than they are rather than how they actually are in present moment.
We tend to catastrophize situations and be drawn to the worst case scenario negative outcome.
If someone has been in a place of having trouble finding meaning, value, and purpose in your life for quite some time, it’s likely they’ve fallen to being a victim of their circumstances. Purpose in life isn’t a destination, rather in the journey itself. Experiencing and expressing happiness, gratitude, love, and joy in every moment is your purpose at the fundamental level.
What areas of your life do you feel you have had meaning, value, and purpose?
It’s possible for your place and purpose in life to change along the way. Nothing is set in stone. You’re constantly evolving and growing each day until the day of your death.
What meaning, value, and purpose do you have in the lives of others?
What kinds of things bring you happiness, gratitude, love, and joy?
It is in the answers to these questions that you’ll be given guidance on where you need to focus your attention to move forward with connecting with your meaning, value, and purpose. If you’re stumped or having issues with this exercise, ask a family member or close friend to tell you what they see in you. Ask them how you show up for them. Be brave enough to ask them what they view your strengths are. Write the information down and journal about it. You already have the answers within you if you’re willing to open up enough to receive the information.
